Bio description: Nia DeCoux is a writer, editor, and educator who believes that when done well storytelling and teaching become the same practice. Her work has been honored by both the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts, and the National Black Arts Festival. In her current capacity as Residential Academic Support Coordinator for Boys Hope Girls Hope of Detroit, she lives in a house with six teenage girls from under-resourced families. Her job is to provide 24-hour academic and social-emotional support to her students so that they may succeed in a college-prep environment. Previously she taught English as a Second Language for The Leadership Center- Honduras. TLC is a tuition-free, all women’s college in that promotes business leadership and bilingualism. Nia is a passionate educator and mentor. She approaches youth of all ages with respect and generosity. she has the experience, competence, humor, and patience necessary to be​ a role model an effective tutor.
